Position Summary:
The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for execution and delivery of financial close, technical accounting and tax compliance across the Group.
The role acts as the accounting backbone of the Finance function, owning the integrity of financial results and supporting statutory, audit and regulatory requirements.
With the transition away from a standalone tax function, this role also takes on tax compliance execution, supported by external advisors and oversight from the Financial Controller.
This role owns execution and quality of accounting outputs, including reconciliations and tax compliance, with review typically performed at a high-level control and exception basis by the Financial Controller.
Key Responsibilities of the role
The duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Financial Close & Accounting Execution
· Own month-end close execution, including:
o journals, accruals and adjustments
o balance sheet reconciliations
· Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
· Maintain quality and timeliness of close processes
Balance Sheet & Financial Control
· Own preparation and quality of balance sheet reconciliations
· Investigate and resolve reconciling items
· Ensure completeness and consistency across entities
· Highlight risks, unusual balances and issues
Statutory Reporting & Audit Support
· Support preparation of statutory accounts across entities
· Act as key contact for audit deliverables
· Provide supporting analysis and documentation
· Ensure audit queries are addressed efficiently
Revenue & Technical Accounting
· Apply IFRS 15 and other accounting standards
· Support contract accounting and revenue recognition
· Assess complex or non-routine transactions
· Provide technical input as required
Tax Compliance & Support
· Own preparation and execution of tax compliance activities across the Group, including corporate tax, indirect tax and regulatory filings
· Support the Financial Controller in coordinating with external tax advisors, including preparing required information and responding to queries
· Ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all tax submissions
· Maintain supporting documentation for audit and compliance purposes
Process Improvement & Support
· Support improvements across close and accounting processes
· Contribute to documentation and SOP development
· Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and quality
Stakeholder Management
· Work with Finance Operations Lead to ensure alignment between accounting and working capital
· Liaise with external advisors (audit, tax)
· Escalate complex issues to Financial Controller
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Education / Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline
· CA / CPA qualified (or equivalent)
Professional Experience
· Experience in financial accounting, audit, or similar role
· Strong experience in:
o month-end close processes
o balance sheet reconciliations and financial control
· Experience supporting:
o statutory reporting
o external audit processes
· Experience working with or coordinating tax compliance activities (corporate and indirect tax exposure desirable)
· Experience in a multi-entity or international environment (desirable given your group structure)
Knowledge & Technical Skills
· Strong understanding of:
o financial reporting and accounting standards (IFRS / AASB)
o reconciliation processes and financial controls
· Ability to:
o investigate variances and resolve issues
o identify risks and escalate appropriately
· Exposure to:
o tax compliance processes (corporate / VAT / GST)
o revenue recognition (IFRS 15 desirable)
· Strong Excel and ERP system capability
